North Staffordshire workers who have lost their jobs or been furloughed during lockdown are being offered free support and advice at an employment event this week.
The post Covid-19 Support for Workers fair has been arranged by Stoke-on-Trent North MP Jonathan Gullis on the back of the pandemic.
Friday's event (31st) will see organisations from across the region come together to offer free financial and employment support and advice to people who have been made redundant or been furloughed as a result of the crisis.
The drop-in event is taking place at Port Vale Football Club, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent between 10am and 3pm.
Jonathan Gullis MP said: “This is a difficult time for a great many residents and workers. Even with the generous furlough package that the government made available, helping over 12,600 in Stoke North, there are still difficult economic times ahead.
“This event is a great opportunity for those who are struggling. If you are in work, with reduced hours, still on furlough or have been made redundant, please come along and to access the range of free support on offer.”
Claire Halket, chief operating officer for Port Vale, said: “We are very pleased to be hosting the Support For Workers event. Through our outreach and the work of the Port Vale Foundation and Hubb Foundation charity during the pandemic lockdown, we are only too aware of the difficulties many local families are experiencing and will do all we can to help.”
YMCA North Staffordshire is among the organisation who will be in attendance on the day.

My generation and previous ones had that opportunity, and we must help this younger generation have the same chances we did. The YMCA will work with all groups to help make this happen.”
The Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group will also be at the fair.
Apprentice Hub manager Gareth Hughes said: “We have a range of current apprenticeship vacancies available and on-hand to help support attendees with the information they need at this difficult time. “Events such as this bring together industry professionals from all sectors, and we are delighted to offer our support.”
Potteries Moneywise manager Jay Lowe added: “The Moneywise team will be there offering help and ensuring people are fully informed about their options and what help is freely available. We will be offering help with employment queries, housing issues and assistance with debt. The event is allowing us to have our services more accessible to those who will need them.”
