A South Tyneside engineering specialist has expanded into new offices in the North East and the US after winning a raft of big contracts.

NECIT has moved into One Trinity Green, South Tyneside Council鈥檚 business centre in South Shields, to accommodate its expanding workforce following strong year-on-year growth and the opening of its Houston, Texas office, in February.

The expansion for the firm, which provides inspection services for international engineering projects, comes as it chalks up record turnover of 拢1.67m for 2019, thanks to new contract wins with some of the world鈥檚 biggest international project contractors and companies in sectors including oil and gas.

Growth is set to continue with turnover forecasted for 拢2.7m in 2020.

NECIT delivers inspection, audit and expediting services for some of the world鈥檚 most ambitious engineering projects, across the oil and gas, renewables and power generation sectors and has a network of 2,500 inspectors operating in more than 60 countries.

The firm is currently recruiting seven new members of staff to expand its coordination and administration teams, taking 海角视频 headcount up to 16.

Meanwhile, its Houston office will also build up a team of five staff to support expansion in the US.

Founder and director Peter Lyons said: 鈥淚n the beginning we were just a team of two managing our global network of specialist inspectors. Originally from Hebburn, I鈥檓 now proud to open NECIT鈥檚 headquarters in the heart of South Tyneside.

鈥淥ver recent years we have experienced rapid growth allowing us to take on new challenges and talent whilst expanding into the US market.

鈥淭he current Covid-19 situation is a challenge but we鈥檙e proud to continue providing the expert key workers that are required to keep our vital energy and engineering industries operational. We feel optimistic about the future and our fantastic team are on track for another record-breaking year.鈥

NECIT is now part of One Trinity Green鈥檚 emerging offshore hub which aims to strengthen the borough鈥檚 position in the sector, while also helping firms to maximise international opportunities.

In May, Equinor and SSE Renewables announced that they are to build a new Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Base at the Port of Tyne for Dogger Bank, the world鈥檚 largest offshore wind farm.

Mr Lyons added: 鈥淲e look forward to working with the borough鈥檚 cluster of offshore businesses at One Trinity Green.

鈥淭he North East boasts key niche engineering knowledge and skills and a well-established offshore supply chain. We are on the doorstep of the new Port of Tyne development and this is a great opportunity to showcase and utilise the local talent and resources we have that will help us to collectively grow together - not just as a borough, or a region but nationally.鈥
