Businesses across Somerset are being encouraged to apply for supporting roles in film and TV.

Last year, screen productions spent an estimated £4.2m across the county, according to Screen Somerset, the local authority's film office.

Companies from a range of sectors, including accommodation, catering, security, couriers, costume hire and cleaning, are being invited to register their details on the free-to-join Filming in England Supplier Directory.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s lead member for economic development, planning and assets, said: “Film and TV shoots can put a lot of money into the economy, which is why Screen Somerset is promoting and supporting filming in the county.

“We want to make sure local, independent business feel as much of that economic benefit as possible. Registration on the Supplier Directory only takes a few minutes, it’s totally free and who knows where it could lead.”

Screen Somerset, Somerset Council’s film office, supports, promotes and celebrates filming in the county in recognition of the economic and wider benefits it can bring.

It has worked with dozens of productions - from daytime TV shows to summer blockbusters.

Creative England’s Filming in England Partnership supports and encourages film and high-end TV productions in the regions outside London, including the South West.
