From a new head of business banking at Barclays to the appointment of a new managing director for insurer Cornish Mutal - we take a look at the most recent promotions and appointments in the South West region.
Cubik Innovation
The Bristol-based electronic design company has appointed a new co-director.
Sam Beard has joined the team as operations director and will be working alongside managing director Paul Mullen. Sam was previously operations manager at the firm.
Paul said: “Sam joining Cubik as director is a huge upward step for Cubik. Taking on the responsibility of running a business is a difficult decision, but I know that Sam will take these responsibilities seriously.
"During his time at Cubik, he has excelled at everything he has done and more than proved his worth."
Sam previously worked for engineering giant BAE Systems and product development consultancy Kinneir Dufort. He joined Cubik in 2013.
He said: “I have seen the company grow and flourish and have enjoyed being a part of that at every stage. Becoming a director at Cubik is a brand-new challenge that I can get stuck in to and I am looking forward to more of the same going forward.”
Institution of Civil Engineers
Katy Toms, a senior engineer at WSP Exeter, has become chair of the board of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West.

Her appointment was made at the organisation’s annual general meeting on September 12 in Exeter.
Katy, who lives in Devon, first joined ICE as a student while studying engineering at Plymouth University; she first became a member of the ICE student and graduate committee, before going on to chair the Plymouth City Club.
She takes over from Richard Fish, who was in the role for two years.
Katy said: “I’m extremely excited to take on this role. ICE South West has come a long way over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to drive forward change.”
Miranda Housden, ICE South West director, added: “[The board] is extremely excited that Katy is taking on this role for the region - it is a great time for women in engineering and Katy will be a brilliant role model for aspiring young men and women looking to join this dynamic and fascinating industry."
Knight Frank
The estate agency has appointed a new partner to head up its new business rates service in Bristol.
Jon Ely is joining the team from commercial property firm Cushman & Wakefield in Cardiff.

He will provide a ratings service to local and national companies operating in the South West and South Wales.

EY
EY has appointed two new partners to its transaction and mergers and acquisitions team in Bristol.
Matt Eves, who joined the company as a trainee in 2001, and Lucy Winterborne, who has 19 years’ experience within restructuring services, will be joining the firm.
Lucy said: “EY has a hugely experienced and successful restructuring team and I am looking forward to bringing this expertise to our clients.”
Matt said: “It is an exciting time to be building the team in the South West. There are considerable opportunities for us to leverage our local and national knowledge so as to add value during transactions.”
Andrew Perkins, office manager partner at EY in Bristol, added: “These two senior appointments are a real boost to EY’s capabilities within the South West and Wales. We are delighted to have them with us.”
EY employs over 400 people at its office in Bristol.
Browne Jacobson
Exeter law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed a new IT director.
Abby Ewen will be working closely with managing partner Iain Blatherwick and the executive board as well as heading up the firm’s IT team.
Abby is the firm’s first female IT director, following on from Caroline Green’s recent appointment as the firm’s first female senior partner.
She joins from law firm BLM where she was IT director for more than six years. Prior to her time at BLM, Abby held various senior IT and change management positions over 10 years with law firm Simmons and Simmons.
Iain said: "We are delighted to have someone with Abby’s experience join us. She will play a crucial role in helping us to deliver our vision and strategy."

AAA Training Solutions
The health and social care training provider has appointed a new contract manager.
Lucie Johnson has joined the company’s Weston-super-Mare office.
She said: “I am delighted to be joining them and helping build the business further, while also assisting people with developing their careers through comprehensive training and top-notch qualifications.”
Lucie is a qualified assessor and has been employed across various sectors within work-based learning and education.

“She has a clear vision for developing staff towards excellence, in teaching and learning, while motivating and improving the performance of her team simultaneously.
Lovell
The partnership housing division of the £3billion Morgan Sindall Group has appointed a new head of land and development.
Jake Gresswell will spearhead the firm's growth strategy in the southern region.
Jake, who will be based in Exeter, has worked in the land and planning sector for more than 25 years covering the South of England, the South West and London. He has also spent time in Australia driving multi-million-dollar projects.
Jake’s most recent role has been heading up the land division at Galliford Try Partnerships in the South West. Before that Jake held senior roles at LSL and Helmores and managed his own development consultancy.
He said: “With the market opening up, it’s an exciting time to be joining Lovell Southern. There’s a huge opportunity to grow the region across the South West and along the south coast."
Barclays
Barclays has appointed Steven Beavan to head of business banking for Bristol and the West of England.
Steven will lead a team of relationship managers across the north of the region responsible for supporting Barclays business customers operating with a turnover between £400,000 to £6million.
He has previously worked for two major European banks in a variety of business and commercial banking positions over the past 19 years.
Steven said: “I’m passionate about helping business owners plan for the future and invest for growth, alongside helping them to expand into new markets and reach their full potential.
"This is an exciting yet uncertain time for me to be taking up my new role and I look forward to working with my team and meeting customers to understand how Barclays can help them navigate and capitalise on this period of change.”

China Fleet Country Club
The South West-based country club has appointed Ben Waters to the club's golf team.
Ben, who is a member of the PGA, will manage the course, driving range, Golf Pro shop, lessons and coaching, chipping green, as well as competitions and golfing events.
Before taking up the role, Ben spent 13 years as head of Golf Pro for St Mellion.
“We are delighted to have Ben heading up our Golf Dept,” said director Dean Bennett. “Our club has always been very popular with visitors from the 海角视频 and internationally and has a healthy membership base of regular players from the local area.
"Not only is Ben a very talented player himself, but he understands the golf industry and has great business acumen.”
China Fleet Country Club's Martin Hawtree-designed golf course opened in 1991 and features 10 par fours, four par fives and four par threes.

Bristol and Bath Parks Foundation
Charity BBPF has appointed a new director and 11 trustees.
Charlee Bennett will take up the role as the charity’s first ever director to spearhead its next stages of development.
Charlee has worked in the charity sector for the last eight years, including as a campaigns manager for Save the Children 海角视频 and most recently as chief executive for CPRE Hampshire.
She will be supported by a new board of 11 trustees, who have a wide range of experience and backgrounds including legal, HR, environmental, marketing and communications.
Rob Acton-Campbell, secretary of Bristol Parks Forum and a member of the team that led the creation of the charity will take the role as chair.
Charlee said: “This new charity aims to make Bristol and Bath’s parks better places for people to play, learn, grow, and really enjoy nature.
"We will be looking to local communities to tell us what might make a difference to their parks – from improvements to existing features, health initiatives and better access – and finding new and innovative ways to fundraise to make them happen.
“I feel very privileged to be appointed as the charity’s first Director and I can’t wait to begin working with our partners and Board of Trustees to start developing some great initiatives.”
CMOStores.com
A Plymouth-based online builders’ merchant has appointed a new marketing director.
CMOStores.com, which has experienced 220 per cent growth in three years and is predicting turnover to grow to £50million in 2019, has hired Ben Hodson to the business.
Ben joins the 100-strong CMOStores.com team based at Burrington Way. He has more than 10 years’ national and international brand development and engagement experience as a senior marketing and creative professional for baby product brand Tommee Tippee.
Ben said: “This is a really exciting time to join CMOStores.com and further grow its brand. The company is continuing to expand exponentially and is increasingly being regarded as a real disruptor in this competitive market sector."

Cornish Mutual
The South West insurer has appointed Peter Beaumont as its new managing director.
Peter has been the company’s finance and operations director for more than a decade. Subject to regulatory approval, he will take over the role from Alan Goddard, who is due to retire after 15 years.
Founded in 1903, Cornish Mutual insures farms and rural businesses across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset. Being a mutual organisation means the company is owned by its members.
Peter, who joined Cornish Mutual in 2009, will assume the leadership of the company when Alan retires in December 2019.
He said: “Over the last ten years, I have had the privilege of working alongside Alan and the whole Cornish Mutual team to make the company what it is today.
"As managing director, I am delighted to now have the opportunity to build on our strengths and ensure we continue to evolve and adapt, including through the use of new technology, to meet the changing needs and expectations of our members."
