Ambitious tool specialist Go Hire has opened its third branch in the Humber region.
Sally Wray’s six-year-old business has completed the overhaul of a former social club, creating a Hull East depot to complement the Goulton Street site and the Caspian Plant Hire acquisition in Grimsby.
A total of five new jobs have been created at what was Meyer’s on Chamberlain Road.
Sally said: “It’s amazing; GoHire is now an independent chain company.
“Since buying this business in 2015, I’ve had a strong vision, with aspirations to expand across the region, bringing the brand and service to more customers.
“We opened our second branch, GoHire Grimsby last November and despite the challenges that the pandemic has presented, it has been a triumph.
“Chamberlain Road had actually been on the cards since the beginning of 2020. Progress with the purchase was slow as planning approvals took time, but in all honesty it feels like things were delayed for a good reason, as the new depot in Grimsby fell into my lap in September and the acquisition of Caspian Tool and Plant Hire in Grimsby actually completed first.
“Securing an East Hull depot always seemed like the natural progression for us. We wanted to provide the same great service to more customers in the city and we’ve had a great response since day one. "

Before closing in 2015, the social club had once been a thriving venue for the community. Better known as Sully’s, it was once owned by rugby league legend Clive Sullivan MBE, recently honoured with a Google Doodle, and whose name is take by the main artery into the city.
He was the first black Great British sporting captain, plying his trade with both Hull FC and KR, before his life was tragically cut short by cancer at the age of just 42.
Go Hire, named Small Business of the Year in the Hull Business Awards, completed the purchase of the building - lock stock and disco ball - in December.
"It has a vibrant history, it feels a huge privilege to be here, a wonderful reminder of our Hull roots," Sally said.
“After the uncertainty of 2020, seeing our plans fall into place feels an even greater achievement.
"Business dipped for us at the start of lockdown, as it did for most, but things soon picked up again and the end of the year was our best quarter, ever. It’s thanks to the continued support of our customers and staff that this has all been possible.
"The new development is providing employment opportunities for people in the region, covering a range of positions in our tool hire business. We have recruited an experienced hire team who will have a period of training to get up to scratch with our systems and experiencing the company culture, before opening the doors."
