Newcastle engineering firm CD Group acquired by recruiters and contractors NRL Group

The deal creates a business with £185m combined turnover

Newcastle-based engineering consultancy CD Group has been acquired by recruiters and contractors NRL Group.

The deal creates a combined business of £185m turnover, and CD Group's 37 staff will now work as part of NRL Group.

Trading as Contract Design (Northern) Limited since the late 1980s, CD Group is made up of four businesses that offer international design engineering consultancy, draughting, quantity surveying, translation and recruitment services.

From aircraft carrier builds to involvement in the Bonga oil project off the coast of Nigeria, the firm has worked on a wide variety of º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and overseas contracts spanning the offshore oil and gas, marine, petrochemical, nuclear engineering and manufacturing sectors.

NRL Group recruits staff with technical expertise for similar sectors and has supported the construction of º£½ÇÊÓÆµ's first new nuclear power station since 1995, Hinkley Point C, and the biomass fuelled power station, Tees Renewable Energy Plant.

The Wigan-headquartered firm also operates bases in Sunderland and on Teesside.
