He started his business from his bedroom as a teenager and now former graffiti artist Alun Jenkins has become a leading paint spray can supplier with revenues forecast to hit £3m this year.

His growing business, Graff City, based in Abergavenny, stocks over 120,000 spray cans supplying the º£½ÇÊÓƵ graffiti art market, as well as schools, local authorities and  garages.

With a £800,000 investment, supported by Barclays, Graff City, with employs 12, has moved into new large premises in the south Wales market town.

Mr Jenkins said: "I started selling paint online when I was 17 from my bedroom, buying in bulk and selling individual cans to fellow graffiti artists.

"The model worked, but pretty soon the house was full of stock and I had to make the decision about going to university or making a real go of the business. I then acquired my first unit in 2009 and have never looked back.

"We now employ 12 staff and will have a turnover of £3m this year, as the business continues to expand.”

He added: "Some  99% of sales are currently online, but with a retail outlet now on site, customers now have the option to view  at first hand the range of products available.

"The new unit will allow us to expand our product lines and carry even more stock.
