Fresh funding is available for Derby businesses which have suffered a financial hit due to the Omicron Covid variant.

Derby City Council said applications for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant, and the Additional Restrictions Grant are now open.

The first type of grant is available to ratepaying hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses that provide an “in-person” service, and are part of a £700 million pot that was made available by Government in December.

Eligible businesses had to be trading on December 30, 2021, and applications will close at 11.59pm on Monday, February 28.

Meanwhile, the Additional Restrictions Grant has been provided by Government to support businesses severely impacted by the new variant but are unable to access the hospitality and leisure grant.

The city council said it could cover affected businesses involved in: hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, travel and tourism, the wedding industries, nightclubs, theatres, the events sector, wholesalers, breweries, gyms and childcare.

Applications for those grants close on Monday, February 15 and businesses can apply for both grants through the MyAccount portal on the city council website.

Coun Jonathan Smale, cabinet member for finance, assets and digital, said: “We know all too well the challenges that coronavirus restrictions present to our many fantastic businesses in Derby, and we want to help where possible.
