Dragons’ Den entrepreneur and Strictly Come Dancing star Sara Davies has praised her team at Crafter’s Companion after helping to steer the crafting company through the pandemic.

The businesswoman has thrown a celebratory Sweet 16th party to mark the milestone anniversary, telling of the importance of appreciating staff and customers.

Ms Davies launched the Newton Aycliffe business in 2005, when she was studying for a business degree at York University. Whilst on her university course placement she teamed up with a small crafting business, and spotted a gap in the market for a tool which crafters could use to create their own envelopes. Her father made the prototype for The Enveloper, and after promoting it on a TV shopping channel sales soared and Crafter’s Companion was born.

Now, the firm has more than 200 employees in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and US, turns over more than £34m, sells into more than 40 countries worldwide through a strong online business, has its own TV studios, and a number of bricks and mortar hobby haven shops.

She said: “This is a real milestone moment for us and we’re celebrating in style! Marking our 16th Birthday means a lot to everyone at the company and to me personally.

“For more than a year, businesses have been faced with a number of challenges and taking the time to step back, appreciate the hard work and look at how far we’ve come is really important.

“I’m so incredibly proud of what the whole team at Crafter’s Companion has achieved in the last 16 years. We are always looking to improve, expand and create new and innovative products for the craft industry, exporting to more than 40 different countries across the world.
