A property auctions firm is refusing to let the coronavirus crisis disrupt its operations by using technology to help it hold its 100th Derby sale.

Today, SDL Auctions Graham Penny will be pushing ahead with its latest sale of Derby residential and commercial property lots.

But instead of being staged at its usual venue of Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, the entire sale will be held online.

The firm took the decision to hold an online sale shortly after the Government announced measures on social distancing and large gatherings to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Within 24 hours of the announcement, SDL Auctions received more than 100 requests from people looking to place their bids remotely, over the internet, by phone or by proxy.

Managing director and auctioneer Andrew Parker said: “It has been heart-warming to see such a fantastic response to our announcement.

“We had been looking forward to celebrating our 100th Derby auction in front of a big crowd in the auction room but it is more important to keep our customers and staff safe.

“However, we know that same big crowd of people will be with us watching our live video feed from a safe distance.”
