Plans to build the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's biggest padel complex with 15 courts in Swansea can be revealed. Property and investment group Swansea.com has acquired the former Press Glass factory building in the city for a nine indoor padel court complex, with an additional six outside courts.
The new facility will come under Swansea.com's new brand of Jaxx Padel, which will build on its existing padel courts in the city.
Its latest project, including the building acquisition and fitout, will represent a £3.25m investment by the company.
Subject to planning consent from Swansea Council, its first Jaxx Padel venue is scheduled to open before Christmas this year and will employ 25. The outside courts are scheduled to open next summer.
Swansea.com has also confirmed plans to open a second Jaxx Padel branded site in Swansea next year, although at this stage its location cannot be publicly confirmed. It then plans to focus on sites further west.
Swansea.com open its first padel courts in the city and its Pure Swansea five-a-side football complex in 2023. Earlier this it opened its second padel venue in the centre of Swansea at Foresters Yard (the former Pilkington Glass site).
Its latest project comes as take-up of the ratchet sport, described as a cross between tennis and squash, continues to soar in popularity. There are now more than 400,000 active padel players in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ with 350 venues.
There are hopes that padel will become an Olympic sport in time for the 2032 games in Brisbane, Australia.
