Plans have been submitted for a new major Exeter city waterside neighbourhood.

Planning permission is being sought by Cilldara Group Exeter to build a sustainable new community providing 900 to 980 homes and 36 – 40,000m2 of other uses to help create a ’15-minute neighbourhood’.

reported that the new neighbourhood will include a mix of leisure, community, workspace, hotel and education uses, easily accessible by walking and cycling.

Plans include shops, cafes, co-working spaces, a hotel and a training centre for Exeter College. The land for development is situated between Water Lane and the mainline railway.

The project has been developed through engagement with Exeter City Council, input from two public consultations and advice from the Exeter Design Quality Partnership.

In the planning, design and access statement submitted to Exeter City Council, it states: "The vision of Water Lane is for a liveable, waterside community, within a distinctive new city quarter of character and identity, well connected to and integrated with its surroundings, that is a place people enjoy being in for living, working and community life and, which helps to protect and enhance the natural world.

"It will prioritise people in its spaces, streets and connections. As a place to walk, cycle, relax and socialise, in a setting that is green and animated by varied and active street frontages."
