A pharmacy group has expanded its portfolio of sites after securing new funding.

Redditch-based Knights Pharmacy is using the new capital to support the acquisition of pharmacies from Avicenna Retail in the Rhondda, Cynon Valleys and other locations in South Wales.

The pharmacies will provide patients with access to a broader range of clinical care, upgraded digital systems and a dedicated team focused on care as well as the support of the wider Knights network.

As part of the acquisition, all 240 existing staff will be retained, ensuring continuity of care and local knowledge.

Knights said the move was part of its long-term strategy to grow its presence in local communities and make healthcare more accessible.

Following the acquisition, Knights will operate more than 70 pharmacies across England and Wales and anticipates a 35 per cent increase in turnover over the next 12 months.

The company was established in 1985 and is now owned and managed by the second generation of the founding family.
