Persimmon reveal new development for 120 homes in Merthyr

The scheme is scheduled for completion in 2026

CGI of Persimmon's Methyr scheme.

Housebuilder Persimmon has revealed plans for a 120 plus new residential scheme in Merthyr Tydfil following a land acquisition deal.

The company has acquired a site, off Elm Tree Grove in Twynyrodyn with full detailed planning for 121 homes, from Merthyr County Borough Council. The value of the land deal has not been disclosed.

As part of the development, Persimmon will also provide 12 properties to Merthyr Valleys Homes for social housing.

Persimmon said the scheme, which will range from one to five-bedroom properties, will be completed by 2026.

The housebuilder has nine active sites across east Wales with a further seven in the pipeline. Last year it completed nearly 400 new homes in the region, with a pipeline to provide a further 500.

Managing director for Persimmon Homes in east Wales, Lee Woodfine said of the Merthyr project: “This is a hugely exciting development that will deliver much-needed homes for local people in Merthyr, especially young families and first-time buyers, who otherwise might struggle to get onto the housing ladder.

“The proposed site opens up a new market for Persimmon in south Wales, and clearance works are already underway on-site with the aim to deliver a number of plots and first completions next year.

“Our scheme will deliver significant community benefit locally in Merthyr including new jobs, road and active travel infrastructure, sustainable drainage and open green space.
