Gateshead's Access Training has appointed two new directors to support it through an expected period of significant growth.

Tim Pain and Andrea Walters have been appointed to the firm's senior management team, serving alongside their roles at The University of Sunderland where Tim is director of innovation and Andrea is chief operating officer. Access was acquired by The university earlier this year.

The pair will work with Access Training's managing director, David Armstrong, and director of training, Sharon Wallace, on strategic planning for the business and as conduits between the business and the university.

Mr Armstrong said: "Having Tim and Andrea on our senior management team will have a profound positive impact on the company going forward. They bring strengths in commercial and funded contracts and the wider education landscape as well as HR, legal, governance and operations expertise. All of which will help us to navigate our way through the change and expansion anticipated, following our buy-out by the University.”

Real estate advisor Avison Young has promoted Helen Ewles to interim regional head of real estate management for the North East and Scotland.

Ms Ewles has worked for Avison Young for nearly 17 years, starting in the National Inspection Team supporting the Property Management Department. She became part of the property management team within the Newcastle REM surveying team in 2019.

She has worked on the East Pilgrim Street redevelopment in Newcastle and managed the Taras Properties portfolio guiding the team in securing vacant possession for redevelopment on the plot now being developed as Pilgrim’s Quarter, the future home of HMRC in the North East. And she has contributed to the construction and management strategy for Bank House.

Gordon Hewling principal and managing director, Avison Young Newcastle said: "Helen has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the REM team in Newcastle which manages a large portfolio of high value properties throughout the region.” Ms Ewles added: “I am thrilled to be stepping into the role of interim regional head and believe we have so many opportunities in this region to build on the experience and success of the national REM team. I look forward to working with colleagues to drive the growth and impact of the Avison Young brand."
