More than 30,000 EU citizens living and working in Leicester have applied to stay there.
The Government set up its EU Settlement scheme in the run up to Brexit to work out who can continue to live in the 海角视频 after June 30, 2021.
In June some 15,000 applications to remain in Leicester had been made.
That number doubled by the end of September.
With Brexit looming large in 2020, anyone whose bid fails could face deportation.
The issue was raised at a city council meeting last week when Spinney Hills councillor Misbah Batool asked city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby what the authority鈥檚 strategy was for helping EU citizens integrate into the life of the city and helping them play a part in the multi-cultural city's economy.
Sir Peter said: 鈥淭he 15,000 referred to at the previous council meeting were EU citizens already settled and living in Leicester who had applied to the EU Settlement Scheme as of the end of June 2019.

鈥淭he latest figures from the Government up to the end of September show the number applying has doubled since June and was 30,080.
鈥淥f these 23,890 applications have been concluded, with 13,600 EU citizens living in Leicester granted settled status on the basis they have been continuously living in the 海角视频 for five years or more and the remainder granted pre-settled status having not yet reached the five year residency.
鈥淲e are pleased so many EU citizens have chosen to make Leicester their home, have settled into live here and want to commit their future to our city."
Sir Peter added: 鈥淲e pride ourselves on being a very welcoming city and a very diverse city and we work hard to ensure we are a city where people work well together.
鈥淭o a very significant extent they are part of our society, our community and part of our economy.

鈥淲e would want to ensure they are fully integrated into every aspect of our city 鈥 the social life, the life of the community and the economy.鈥
The mayor said he had not been made aware of anybody who had been living there for some time being refused settled or pre-settled status, but said the council would be prepared to help people through the process.
He also said it was unclear how many EU citizens in the city had yet to apply for settled status.
He added: 鈥淥ther than the census, which we are now eight years on from, it is very difficult to know how many EU citizens there are in Leicester because they they have not been required to register and by definition we often only find out about them when they come forward to apply to stay.
鈥淚 would hope the majority of those who are here have been able to successfully apply to stay."
