A Northumberland leisure company has expanded into North Yorkshire after acquiring a high profile holiday park.

Berwick-based Maguires Country Parks, which owns and operates a number of caravan parks in Northumberland and County Durham, has snapped up the country park in Topcliffe, which was previously known as Swaleside Holiday Park.

The family firm said it was “proud and delighted” to have taken ownership of the country park in the Vale of York, on the banks of the River Swale near the picturesque village of Topcliffe.

The park becomes the eighth destination in the Maquire family’s portfolio, joining parks in Bamburgh, Berwick, Longhorsley, Darlington, Neasham, Framwellgate Moor and Swainby.

The Maguire family started out in business 40 years ago, developing parks aimed at the quality holiday market. All their sites have five star ratings from Visit England.

The Topcliffe acquisition will see the firm also offer holiday home ownership opportunities in landscaped grounds which include more than two acres of woodland and one of the best fishing stretches of the Swale.

Billy Maguire Snr, business owner, said that the country park in Topcliffe was a perfect complement to the other members of his group of top-rated holiday parks.

He said: “The park has been carefully and beautifully developed over the years by a family who, like us, are committed to providing the highest possible standards for customers.
