Northern Gas and Power is considering opening a new office outside of the North East as its Gateshead headquarters reaches its maximum capacity.

Around 365 people work at NGP’s Global headquarters at Gateshead quayside, with 150 sales consultants joining the base this year alone.

But the company has warned that it now has room for just 30 new members of staff at its North East site.

The lack of room means NGP will be forced to take out more office space to accommodate its growth. But the company has not ruled out fuelling its expansion by creating a new office outside of the North East.

A spokesman for Northern Gas and Power said: “There is a conversation about a potential expansion. There is also a conversation about possible expansion around the country. There clearly needs to be expansion, either where we are based in the region or elsewhere in the country.”

NGP added that if the firm was to open another office in the North East it would be in a “similar areas” to its Gateshead base. However, the spokesman also said that the firm is still looking at other parts of the country.

“Those conversations are still in the early stages as we look at opinions. It’s difficult to be more specific than that,” he said.

The energy consultancy firm was formed in 2012 in its owner’s bedroom in South Shields but has now grown to employ more than 550 people around the world. It now has offices in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, Ireland, US, France and India.
