Two Newcastle businessmen who have known each other since their school days have brought their companies under one roof.

Phillip Miller and Chris Pattinson first met at Newcastle Royal Grammar School, play football for the same team and each took over their respective businesses from their fathers.

Mr Miller’s firm ABCA Systems, of Killingworth, has now acquired Mr Pattinson’s firm Tyneside Security, where he will remain as managing director.

It follows a year of growth for fire and security experts ABCA, which turned over £22.7m last year, and which has incrased its employees from 138 to 180 employees.

Mr Miller, of Jesmond, Newcastle, said: “ABCA is a North East success story and already one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s market leaders in fire and security systems. The time was ripe for expansion and Chris’s firm is the perfect fit.

“It’s the first business we’ve bought and we’ve bought it because it’s a success with the potential to grow and grow.”

Mr Pattinson also took over his business Tyneside Security, based on the Camperdown Industrial Estate in Newcastle, from his father.

He turned a loss to a profit in his first year at the firm, which offers installation, service and maintenance of intruder alarms, CCTV and fire alarms across the North East, and the business has continued to grow.
