A North East firm has played a key role in creating a unique - and slightly terrifying - swimming pool suspended 10 storeys above the ground between two new apartment buildings in London.

Devin Consulting, which is based in North Shields, North Tyneside, has been part of the team that has created the glass-bottomed Sky Pool at Embassy Gardens, a new development of luxury flats close to the new American embassy in south London.

Suspended 35 metres (115ft) in the air, the 15-metre pool stretches between two apartment blocks to allow people living in the buildings to swim the towers.

Since opening, the pool has won worldwide attention, being various described ‘mesmerizing’, ‘daunting’ and ‘a swim like no other’.

But the pool has also proved controversial, as it is only accessible to the wealthier residents of the new block.

Devin Consulting has been involved in the construction of more than 500 pools in its 20-year history, including the Qatar Foundation Aquatic Centre, the Bath Spa’s rooftop pool and the London Aquatic Centre.

The company also works on spa, water features and waterpark projects in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and overseas, with its local work including projects in Newcastle, Alnwick, Ashington, Seaham, Killingworth and Sunderland.

The company’s success has seen it creating new jobs in recent weeks.
