Shipping insurance specialist North P&I Club has launched a new suite of digital tools designed to help ship owners and operators keep their vessels safe from operational threats and incidents, including piracy and war.

The Newcastle Quayside headquartered company – the largest of its kind in the world – provides insurance to ship owners and operators around the globe, and has launched the tech tools to help its customers stay safe with advice tools in multiple languages, including Mandarin and Japanese.

The investment in new innovations includes GlobeView, an interactive 3D map which the firm’s customers can use to identify commercial risks and physical threats to shipping around the world.

Through the digital investment, North P&I’s Tyneside team of 280 staff, along with over 100 colleagues in offices across Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America, will provide advice on a range of maritime topics, including sanctions compliance and crew safety management.

Paul Jennings, chief executive of North P&I Club, said: “Since our formation nearly 160 years ago, our job has been to keep people and vessels safe.

“We’re constantly looking at ways to achieve those goals and this latest investment means we can continue to lead the market by providing essential tools for ship owners and operators.

“The resources draw on the expertise of our North East-based team and their colleagues across the world.”

As part of the firm’s progression it has also undergone a brand refresh to become “North”, complete with a new logo.
