Kenton Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) is punching above it weight in the North East boxing scene thanks to continued support from Tier One Capital’s partnership with Sport Newcastle.
The club recently held an exclusive programme of top class sparring featuring Commonwealth, Olympic and amateur boxers from across the region and overseas. Open to the public, the master class event took place at Kenton Park Sports Centre, and featured more than 60 boxers from clubs across the region and saw boxers from Dublin Docklands Boxing Club travel to Newcastle to compete in the event.
Across the two-day event, members of the public and local community were treated to over 100 sparring sessions in Olympic sized rings, featuring multiple Irish and European champions, all refereed by the region’s top class referees Paul Bainbridge and Gary Robson. The amateur boxing clubs represented included Benwell Victoria, North Road, Wallsend Boxing, Dunston, Ashington, North Star, Mainsforth Empire School of Boxing, Dublin Docklands, PS Boxing, Barnard Castle and Marden.

We had no hesitation in funding six of their coaches to further their qualifications and also to award one of these coaches an ‘Unsung Heroes’ award for the fantastic work done with the youngsters.”
The team at Ramside Spa is celebrating after adding to its trophy cabinet at an industry event. Ramside Spa, at Carrvillle, County Durham, was a finalist for the best destination spa category at the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) annual awards, and two of its therapists were also singled out for praise.
Karalina Januleviciute was awarded beauty therapist of the year, and Fay Pratt was a finalist for spa leader of the year, at the award ceremony this month. The wins come hot on the heels of the announcement that the spa, which has five pools, a thermal suite, sleep sanctuary, gym and treatment rooms, had been awarded a 5 Bubble Spa rating by industry experts at The Good Spa Guide.

The co-founder of a family-run business consultancy in Whitley Bay has taken a gold award at the Best Businesswomen Awards. Ashleigh Donald of Halo Business Consulting, was presented with the Best Business Woman in Marketing & PR award at the awards, held in London, which are designed to recognise the achievements of female entrepreneurs from a range of industries.
Ms Donald said: “I’m thrilled to win the prestigious Best Businesswomen Awards for Marketing & PR 2023. With a career of over 20 years in marketing and PR, I’m so grateful to be recognised for my contribution to businesses since co-founding Halo almost four years ago. Thank you for all of the support we have had along the way and congratulations to all of the finalists and winners.”
Debbie Gilbert, the organiser of The Best Businesswomen Awards, added: “This is the ninth year of these prestigious awards, and despite extremely difficult trading conditions businesses have faced over the past few years these businesswomen have powered forwards. Our judging panel, all business experts, were impressed by the quality of the entrants. All our finalists are all shining examples of being successful entrepreneurs who have proved their success to our judges.”

Sustainable toilet paper company Oceans has collaborated with digital agency Mediaworks to take part in The Great British Beach Clean at a North Tyneside beach. Oceans headed to Cullercoats Bay last week to clean up litter from the coast, to get involved with the campaign to help improve coastal areas.
This year marks the 30th year of the Great British Beach Clean, having brought together thousands of volunteers to take part in beach cleans and litter surveys across the 海角视频. Jordan Kelly, brand marketing manager at Oceans, said: “This is a campaign close to Oceans’ heart. Partnering with Mediaworks, we were able to thoroughly comb over the Cullercoats Bay area for litter. This beach clean is one of many taking part in the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean this year.
“It is our aim to help protect our oceans and ,making sure the rubbish left on beaches is cleared is one step in ensuring the safety of marine life, both near the coast and deeper into the oceans. It is astonishing what you can find hidden in the sand of your local beach.
“For many, a dropped sock or smouldering disposable BBQ is easy to forget on the beach. But the effects this can have on the environment, and marine life, are detrimental. No one wants to visit the beach and find litter, let alone our aquatic life. Making sure you’re properly disposing of rubbish, and taking all items with you, can help maintain a cleaner environment for all.”
