Ashington-based Escape Family Support has received 拢10,000 from The Bernicia Foundation to help towards ongoing programmes and general running costs.

The organisation is the only Northumberland charity dedicated solely to supporting the families of people living with addiction and it has seen huge success with programmes designed to help address, reduce and overcome the unspoken stigma, shame and judgement often felt by loved ones when trying to help those nearest.

It focuses on the families and immediate circles of people with substance abuse issues, many of whom are themselves experiencing anxiety, stress, depression and mental health as a direct result of helping someone. In all, 390 individuals, including parents, grandparents, friends and young children, have used the charity鈥檚 services in the past year, 10% more than the previous year.

CEO, Janet Murphy, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e forever grateful to the support given by The Bernicia Foundation as our work is vital, especially when times are becoming harder for many. Addiction is often a crutch when the going gets tough and is often rooted in a back story that goes unnoticed at surface level, so this money will enable us to offer help to the families that may need it now more than ever.

Jenny Allinson, Bernicia foundation director, added: 鈥淎gain, we are seeing the most inspirational work being carried out by the region鈥檚 charities, all of whom make a real difference to people鈥檚 lives. Escape Family Support is no exception, and we are delighted to provide a financial donation to this worthwhile cause. Our next round of funding is currently open for new applications so I would encourage any charity, community group or volunteer project to apply.鈥

Headlight Project, a suicide prevention charity operating across the Tees Valley region, has received a significant donation from 海角视频 bakery brand Warburtons. The funding provided by Warburtons will help the organisation support the implementation of SafeTALK training, giving 120 people in the area essential skills to recognise signs of mental distress and engage in conversations around suicide prevention.

Suzanne Julian, operations manager at Headlight Project, said: 鈥淭his funding means the world to us at the Headlight Project as it enables us to kickstart our suicide prevention training plan.

鈥淭he training will empower people to recognise the signs of mental health struggles and engage in conversations with those who may be contemplating suicide, and ultimately bring us closer to our mission of reducing suicide rates in the Tees Valley.鈥

The funding was donated after a member of the Stockton Warburtons bakery nominated the charity, which was then reviewed by the firm鈥檚 charity team. The Warburtons Foundation assists many local charities across all 11 of its bakeries.

Louise Cruddas from Warburtons said: 鈥淪uicide remains a challenging subject for many to address, especially in vulnerable areas like the North East, therefore I believe supporting organisations like Headlight Project is vital in ensuring the well-being of our community. We have been aware of the incredible work carried out by the Headlight Project team through various social media campaigns and fundraising activities.鈥
