Nicklin Unseen: 'Overwhelming response' to archived images of Birmingham

Brumpic founder hails success of first supplement as year-long mission to showcase Nicklin's work gets into gear

The founder of nostalgia website says he has been overwhelmed by the response to unseen archives of photographer Phyllis Nicklin.

David Oram, who co-founded the popular site and Twitter account with Melanie Reid, says the publication of two supplements in the Birmingham Post is just the start of a year-long journey to discover Ms Nicklin's vast body of work.

David, who works as an events manager at the found more than 1,000 colour 35mm slides taken by the former lecturer during the 1950s and 60s.

The Birmingham Post has published more than 60 of these images in last week and out tomorrow and in the gallery above.

The conversation can also be followed on Twitter using the hashtag #NicklinUnseen while Brumpic galleries published on the Post

David said: "This week has seen Brumpic and its partners fire their opening salvo in our year-long campaign to gain Phyllis Nicklin the recognition that her work so rightly deserves.

"It would be wrong to suggest we have saved her from obscurity but her photography does seem to dip in and out of the public eye over time.

"The response to part one of #NicklinUnseen via our site and social media account has been overwhelming. The conversations that every single image seems to conjure up has amazed us.
