New chief executive to take over at Belfast City Airport

Matthew Hall will take over as the new boss at Belfast City Airport

A former commercial director at London City Airport is to take over at the top of George Best Belfast City Airport.

Matthew Hall, who was previously Commercial Director at David Lloyd and Chief Commercial Officer of the London hub, will become Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland airport from 1 st August.

He will take over from Brian Ambrose, who announced his retirement in February, at a salient time for the airport which has managed to recoup the routes it lost during the pandemic and subsequent demise of FlyBe.

In recent months it has attracted new airlines and routes, and will fly to 26 destinations across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and Europe this summer with airline partners Aer Lingus, British Airways, Eastern Airways, Loganair, KLM, Ryanair and Vueling.

“I very much look forward to joining the highly experienced management team at Belfast City Airport,” Matthew Hall said. “It is a crucial time in the aviation industry as travel resumes post-pandemic, and the airport has a pivotal role to play in supporting the Northern Ireland economy at this time.”

Mr Hall also held executive roles at American Airlines, where he was Managing Director, Sales & Marketing, EMEA, and Vice President at Travelport.

Brian Ambrose, Chief Executive at Belfast City Airport, said it had been a privilege to head up the airport.

“I’d like to thank our committed and talented team who have built a best-in-class product and service,” he said. “I wish Matthew all the best in his new role as he navigates the post-pandemic recovery and the exciting opportunities that brings.”
