A former commercial director at London City Airport is to take over at the top of George Best Belfast City Airport.

Matthew Hall, who was previously Commercial Director at David Lloyd and Chief Commercial Officer of the London hub, will become Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland airport from 1 st August.

He will take over from Brian Ambrose, who announced his retirement in February, at a salient time for the airport which has managed to recoup the routes it lost during the pandemic and subsequent demise of FlyBe.

In recent months it has attracted new airlines and routes, and will fly to 26 destinations across the 海角视频 and Europe this summer with airline partners Aer Lingus, British Airways, Eastern Airways, Loganair, KLM, Ryanair and Vueling.

鈥淚 very much look forward to joining the highly experienced management team at Belfast City Airport,鈥 Matthew Hall said. 鈥淚t is a crucial time in the aviation industry as travel resumes post-pandemic, and the airport has a pivotal role to play in supporting the Northern Ireland economy at this time.鈥

Mr Hall also held executive roles at American Airlines, where he was Managing Director, Sales & Marketing, EMEA, and Vice President at Travelport.

Brian Ambrose, Chief Executive at Belfast City Airport, said it had been a privilege to head up the airport.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank our committed and talented team who have built a best-in-class product and service,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 wish Matthew all the best in his new role as he navigates the post-pandemic recovery and the exciting opportunities that brings.鈥

Declan Collier, Chairman, Belfast City Airport, welcomed Mr Hall.

鈥淲e are delighted that Matthew will come to Belfast City Airport to lead the post COVID-19 restart and recovery and to enhance the airport鈥檚 position within the 海角视频 market. Matthew鈥檚 extensive experience within the aviation sector and, in particular, his knowledge of developing and commercialising a similar city centre airport, will be hugely valuable to Belfast City Airport.

鈥淚 would also like to thank Brian for his leadership and achievements over the past 16 years during which time he developed Belfast City Airport into Northern Ireland鈥檚 airport of choice."
