A £15 million advanced manufacturing research facility in Infinity Park Derby (IPD) is set to benefit from a new £60 million junction following a motion for approval.

Derby city councillors have been asked to approve the next phase in the development of an A50 junction and link road proposal, which has received the single largest transport grant from the Levelling Up Fund.

The new infrastructure investment, planned for completion in early 2025, will cross Deep Dale Lane in Derby and supply a link road running up to the new Infinity Park Nuclear AMRC Midlands centre - delivering sought after accessibility to major routes like the M1.

Work is now underway on the 46,728 sq ft facility - which is next to Rolls-Royce and within a 20 minute drive of global manufacturers Toyota, Alstom and JCB - with completion scheduled for early 2023.

Arrival of Nuclear AMRC Midlands on IPD follows a successful pilot programme at Connect iHub, joined by the University of Derby, and will support 35 collaborative research and development projects, including high value sectors such as aerospace, automotive and rail within the first five years.

Professor Warren Manning, provost – innovation and research at the University of Derby, said: "Co-locating the Institute of Innovation in Sustainable Engineering with the Nuclear AMRC will enable us to share resources and expertise and open up new opportunities for our academics to support whole business sectors to become greener, more efficient, more competitive and ultimately help drive the recovery and future prosperity of our city and region."

Paul Simpson, chief executive of Derby City Council, said: "The new A50 junction and link road to Infinity Park Way is a key piece of infrastructure, which will unlock a substantial area of land to develop employment and housing proposed as part of planned strategic growth south of Derby. This investment is important in stimulating the overall economic growth of the area, which is more critical as we begin to recover from the economic effects of the covid-19 pandemic."
