Family-owned car dealership Nathaniel Cars has sold its 20,000th new MG as it looks to accelerate revenue growth and its site presence.

The landmark sale comes just ten years after the business, founded in Bridgend in 1980, took on a MG franchise.

Nathaniel Cars has grown from a 43-strong workforce selling 1,000 new and used cars a year to a team of 200 people across four sites - Bridgend, Cardiff, Cwmbran and Swansea – with annual sales exceeding 8,000 cars.

Having generated sales of £110m last year it is projecting revenues this year of £125m. Earlier this year it acquired an 8-acre site in Bridgend which will serve as a preparation centre - which will store vehicles before being distributed to the firm's four showrooms - in an investing creating a further 50 jobs.

The relationship with MG began at a time of personal challenge for company director, Nathan Griffiths, as he returned to the business following a battle with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Mr Griffiths said: “The month I came back, that was when we took on MG. It gave me something to fight for, it gave me a purpose. MG didn’t just change our business, but it changed my life as well.

“What we’ve achieved in the time since is more than a growth in numbers. It’s been a journey that illustrates mutual trust with our customers, a sense of shared values, and the importance of a strong, Welsh heart to our business.”

Wayne Griffiths, who founded the business 45 years ago and continues to work alongside his son Nathan, said: “Family, loyalty, and looking after people, those are the values that guided us then, and they continue guide us now. MG shares those values, and that’s why our partnership endures.”
