A North East motor retailer is placing itself at the forefront of converting commercial vehicles for electric use, through the launch of its first all electric fleet.

Vic Young, based in South Shields, South Tyneside, has operated as a dealership for new and used cars and vans for more than 40 years, specialising in recent times in the development of electric vehicles for commercial and private customers.

Its Vic Young Conversions division develops a range of specialist vehicles – including vans, trucks and minibuses – including those for full Motability approval, and has come up with a range of solutions over the years, including an electric oven van for catering supplier Sodexo and a private ambulance for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.

The firm is led by founder and engineer Vic Young, who now wants to become the ‘go to’ expert in modifying any vehicle for all-electric use, and it can already convert box vans, refrigerated vans and wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Now, with the market gearing up to go all-electric with vehicles for trade and industry, Mr Young is launching his own fleet of all-electric Nissan e-NV200 Box Van, while also taking orders to convert commercial fleets around the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

The Nissan box van is one of the most used commercial vehicles in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, and Mr Young said orders were already coming in from across the country for the vehicles.

He said: “The clock is ticking for everybody on emissions. Whether you like it or not the way forward is electric and we have developed a unique and affordable alternative.

“We are very proud to have developed the first electric vehicles of this kind in the North East, º£½ÇÊÓƵ, and Europe, but more important this is incredibly important for our planet.
