Manchester United's losses were slashed as revenue jumped during the first quarter of their new financial year as the Premier League club continued to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The figures, for the three months to the end of September 2021, show United's total revenue increased to £126.5m compared to the £109m they posted during the same period in 2020.

Their operating losses were cut from £27.1m to £10.2m but the club's adjusted EBITDA fell from £20.8m to £11.2m.

Manchester United's commercial revenue climbed from £59.7m to £64.4m while its match day sales surged by more than 1,000% from £1.7m to £18.8m because of the lifting of the Government's pandemic restrictions.

Broadcasting revenue however declined from £47.6m to £43.3m, "primarily due to playing four fewer home and away games across domestic competitions, due to the completion of the 2019/20 Premier League and FA Cup competitions during the prior year quarter".

United's losses before income tax fell from £27m to £19.8m over the quarter.
