Man City chief executive Ferran Soriano voted onto European Club Association board

Soriano’s election is another sign of the European champions’ growing influence at the top of continental football

Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano has been elected to the European Club Association (ECA) board.

The 56-year-old Spaniard was one of seven European club executives voted onto the ECA board at the organisation’s General Assembly in Berlin on Thursday morning.

Soriano’s election is another sign of the European champions’ growing influence at the top of continental football, at a time when they are facing 115 charges from the Premier League relating to alleged breaches of its financial regulations.

The chief executives of Arsenal and Celtic – Vinai Venkatesham and Peter Lawwell – have been appointed to the board of the Joint Venture between the ECA and European football’s governing body UEFA.

The JV gives has given clubs a greater influence over the commercial direction of UEFA’s club competitions, including the sale of broadcast and media rights.
