Jo Harrington, regional agency manager at Free Radio, was appointed the new chair of Birmingham Publicity Association.

Jo Harrington, regional agency manager at Free Radio, was appointed the new chair of Birmingham Publicity Association (BPA, formerly PACE) at the organisation’s 67th annual general meeting held at Fazeley Studios in Digbeth.

Ms Harrington will follow in the footsteps of Steve Price from One Black Bear who chaired the organisation from 2011 to 2013 and who will now take on the role of Charity Liaison Officer.

The AGM also saw the appointment of Lizzy Burrows, marketing executive from Aston Villa Football Club, as Deputy Chair.

Jo said: “It gives me immense pleasure to take over the role of chair of the BPA. Steve did a great job cementing the BPA’s position in Birmingham since its name change from PACE in 2011 and, moving forwards, I want to build on this, increasing membership and introducing a wider variety of events to help raise much needed funds for our chosen charities over the next two years.

“The BPA has an important role to play in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. As an organisation, we look to encourage relationships and opportunities between media and creative industries and showcase the exceptional talent that we have on offer in the region.”

Dedicated to bringing the creative industries in the Midlands closer together, the BPA has existed since the 1930s and each year chooses two charities that its members wish to support.

This year’s fundraising total will be split between HelpHarryHelpOthers (HHHO) and the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS).

HHHO and NABS were named as BPA’s charities of choice at the beginning of 2013. HHHO was set up in memory of 11-year-old Harry Moseley who tragically died of a brain tumour in October 2011 after fighting tirelessly to raise money to help those suffering from cancer.
