The indoor golf company set up by a father and son and later sold for 拢10.5million has continued to expand by opening its eighth 鈥渁dventure golf鈥 centre.

Paradise Island Adventure Golf was only set up in 2005 but it is expanding with new owner Brighton Pier Group, which owns Brighton Palace Pier, opening in Plymouth as part of a plan to roll the brand out across the 海角视频.

The company, which acquired the business from Eddie and Joshua Dantzic and retained them to help it grow, has launched in a 16,000sq ft double unit at Plymouth鈥檚 new 拢53million Drake Circus The Bardcode cinema and leisure complex.

The indoor, jungle-themed course, is an example of the sort of fun attractions coming into city centres as they see retailers fall by the wayside under the onslaught of internet selling, tax burdens and constrained consumer spending.

Tom Sutherland, manager at the new Plymouth centre, said the idea was to offer 鈥渢he whole experience: shopping, leisure and restaurants.鈥

Indoor golf has become something of a craze in cities such as London, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds with other companies running similar venues around the country include Junkyard Golf Club, Jungle Rumble, Puttshack and Swingers.

Joanne High, who heads property consultants Vickery Holman鈥檚 Plymouth office, is among experts predicting that city centres are not dead but simply transforming as consumers move away from accumulating things, and when they do they look online, to buying 鈥渆xperiences鈥.

Mrs High said: 鈥淩etail is evolving, it鈥檚 not dying. It is becoming more about experiences.鈥

The Dantzic鈥檚 Lethington Leisure Ltd launched its first outlet at n Braehead, Glasgow, in 2006. It then expanded into Manchester鈥檚 Trafford Centre in 2008, Sheffield and Livingston in 2012, Cheshire Oaks in 2015 and Derby in 2017.

Inside Paradise Island Adventure Golf

The Brighton Pier Group, formerly the Electric Bar Group, which owns bars in large towns and cities across the 海角视频, snapped up the business in late 2017 and targeted further expansion.

The AIM-listed company, which also owns two Smash ping-pong bars, invested 拢100,000 into upgrading the flagship Manchester golf centre in 2018 and began its march around the 海角视频 by opening at Rushden Lakes in April 2019, and then in Plymouth in October the same year.

The company鈥檚 results to the end of 2018 showed revenue grew by 拢500,000 to 拢16.5million, but annual profit before tax slipped to 拢1.7million from 拢2.3million.

It benefited from acquiring Paradise Island Adventure Golf, which contributed 拢2.1 million of sales in 26 weeks of trading.

The company said: 鈥淭he business capitalises on the increasing convergence between retail and leisure, offering an accessible and traditional activity for the whole family.鈥

The Paradise Island Adventure Golf centre opened at Drake Circus The Barcode on Thursday, October 23, at 10am, with two 18-hole courses and a mezzanine games arcade.
