'Huge rise in demand' boosts Classic Football Shirts sales

The "huge rise in demand" for retro football shirts has helped a retailer's sales continued to increase.

Classic Football Company, which trades as Classic Football Shirts, has posted a turnover of £19.4m for its latest financial year, up from £18.2m.

However, a rise in costs because of it "heavily investing" in its e-commerce, retail and warehouse infrastructure has led to its pre-tax profits dipping from £3.8m to £1.9m.

The figures for the Hyde-headquartered business have been included in newly-published accounts for its financial year to June 30, 2022, which have just been made public on Companies House.

The business was founded in 2006 by University of Manchester students Matthew Dale and Doug Bierton and increased its headcount from 91 to 115 in the year.

The company was the front-of-shirt sponsor for Burnley FC during the 2022/23 season but have been replaced by betting firm W88 for the upcoming campaign.

As well as trading via its website, the firm has stores in Manchester and London.
