A Plymouth industrial cleaning firm – and its Thunderbirds-style rescue squad – is continuing to expand and has actually taken on staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

New Wave Marine has added five new workers in dual roles for its drainage and confined space rescue teams, and is now looking to add to its fleet of vehicles.

The new appointments are in response to the large volumes of contracts the firm is delivering with clients across the country.

New Wave Marine operates nationwide, specialising in cleaning industrial tanks and mopping up fuel and waste spills, tackling pollution incidents, and delivering fuel too, while also sprucing up student flats, superyachts, building sites and even Plymouth’s incinerator.

And its highly-trained International Confined Space Rescue Unit is on-call 24/7 ready to enter all manner of hostile environments and save people's lives.

Clients include the Ministry of Defence, incinerator firms, renewable energy facilities, demolition companies, oil recovery services, pollution control businesses, commercial shipping, port and dockyard operators and building firms.

The family-run firm has seen business and turnover rise to such an extent it moved out of its 1,500sq ft home on Plymouth’s Scott Business Park in 2019 to a quarter-hectare site in Plympton, on the edge of the city, where there is ample room for expansion.

Commercial manager Andy Aldred said: “The new recruits will be trained in getting their Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards together with WinCan (sewer inspection software) accreditation in operating our new CCTV camera unit vehicle and systems.
