The charitable foundation set up by Newcastle bakery chain Greegs is looking for a new chair.

The Greggs Foundation has been in operation since 1987 when it was set up by Ian Gregg, the son of the company鈥檚 founder. It exists to address poverty, hardship and inequality and is best known for its breakfast club programme around the North East and further afield.

Current chair Andrew Davison - who took over from Mr Gregg and has been in the role for more than 20 years - is stepping down from his position. The foundation is now seeking a new chair, working with Newcastle recruitment specialist Drayton Partners.

The job advert says: 鈥淭he ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a deep and active drive to make a difference to the lives of the disadvantaged. They will be a proven leader and have operated at board level in comparable, high profile roles. It may be that their experience is within industry, the professions, or, equally, the not-for-profit sector.

鈥淚t is so important that you can demonstrate a deep, active passion for improving the lives of people in their local communities. You will have a track record of trying to make a difference, raising funds for good causes, perhaps centred upon deprived communities, food poverty, or children鈥檚 wellbeing.

鈥淎 coaching-biased leader with minimal ego, high emotional intelligence, deep energy levels, and resilience will thrive in the role.

鈥淭he role is part-time and non-executive, with periods through the course of the year that carry greater intensity and activity. It is therefore feasible that the Foundation commitment could be balanced with another, more full-time executive commitment.鈥

As well as its breakfast club programme, the Foundation runs holiday clubs, health initiatives and has a rivers regeneration fund. There is also a dedicated fund to support charities in the North East, while the Foundation also has a hardship fund.

The Foundation receives 1% of Greggs鈥 profits each year, and brings together all of Greggs鈥 charitable giving.

Anyone interested in the role is asked to email rob.seery@draytonpartners.com. The closing date for applications is May 9.
