Go.Compare strikes Welsh rugby shirt sponsorship deal

The exact value of the seven-figure deal has not been disclosed

Go.Compare has struck a back of a shirt sponsorship deal with Welsh rugby.

Price comparison firm Go.Compare has struck a seven figure sponsorship deal with Welsh rugby.

In a multi-year tie up the Cardiff-based firm will see its branding on the back of the shirts of both the senior Welsh men’s and women’s international sides as well as age group teams.

Last month the WRU struck a front of shirt sponsorsed deal with Vodafone. It is the first back of jersey sponsorship deal struck by the governing body.

The Go.Compare deal will see its branding debuting when the men’s senior team play England in a Rugby World Cup warm-up game. The exact value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Interim chief executive of the WRU, Nigel Walker, said: “This is a hugely significant deal for Welsh rugby and we are grateful to Go.Compare for its most welcome support for our international and pathway teams.

“Go.Compare has not just come to the table as a corporate sponsor, they are also investing marketing resource which will positively influence the professional game in Wales and directly encourage sustainability and success across our teams.

“Our new partnership will pay immediate dividends to Welsh rugby and we are greatly encouraged that a Welsh-born company which shares our passion for the game has made such a significant commitment to the WRU.”

Lee Griffin, a founder and chief executive of Go.Compare, said: “Go.Compare has Wales in its DNA, so for us to be able to support Welsh rugby and its range of community initiatives is a huge privilege and we’re really proud to be involved.
