Getting to grips with a changing digital world

If a business doesn't embrace the digital age in its marketing activities, it will be left behind, argues Chris Brown

So you haven't got a digital marketing strategy for your business?

The business world is not just changing - it has already changed and I'm afraid to say the time really has come to remove your head from the sand.

It was not that long ago business owners were still proclaiming this 'internet thing' would never catch on. If you hear anyone utter anything similar today, you should call the nearest doctor.

It doesn't matter what sector you are in – the opportunities digital offers are massive and growing every day whether it is how you sell your products and services or how you actually run your business itself.

The facts are there has been a seismic shift in how people consume their information and this has had a major impact on their buying habits, be that general consumers or other businesses.

To put this into context, last year the equivalent of two thirds of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ adult population accessed the internet on any given day, three times the number compared to 2006 and more than double the number from 2010.

In terms of how they were accessing the internet, more than half of all use now comes through smartphones.

The bottom line is people are using digital to find out about your business so your presence online really matters because if they are not looking at you, they are looking at somebody else.
