Goalhanger Films, a TV production company co-owned by football legend Gary Lineker and former ITV controller Tony Pastor, has entered into voluntary liquidation, according to recent filings with Companies House.

The company, established in May 2014, is known for producing access documentaries featuring major sports stars, with previous projects including Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health; Hand of God; Mo Salah: A Football Fairytale and a Serena Williams documentary with Amazon Prime, as reported by .

A document outlining the financial state of Goalhanger Films as it entered liquidation is expected to be filed with Companies House in the coming weeks. It's important to note that this business is separate from Goalhanger Podcasts, also owned by Lineker, which produces popular series such as The Rest is History, The Rest is Politics and The Rest is Entertainment.

City AM has reached out to Goalhanger for comment. This news follows the recent announcement that Lineker will step down from hosting BBC One's Match of the Day at the end of the season after a 25-year tenure.

However, he has agreed to continue his association with the BBC, fronting its TV coverage of the FA Cup next season and the 2026 men's World Cup, as well as MOTD podcasts.

This follows a report by City AM that a company backed by football pundit Gary Neville also went into liquidation last week. The business, responsible for a Michelin-starred restaurant that shut its doors last year, was in debt to the tune of nearly £1m, according to documents filed at Companies House.

The eatery, named The Man Behind The Curtain, was situated in Leeds and helmed by chef Michael O'Hare. It earned a Michelin star in October 2015, three AA Rosettes in 2016, and secured investment from Gary Neville.

However, The Man Behind The Curtain ceased operations at the close of 2023, with O'Hare since launching a new dining establishment in the city, Psycho Sandbar.
