An organisation set up to promote businesses and economic prosperity across the Midlands is to be shut down.

Midlands Engine was launched in 2015 with the aim of bringing together businesses, public sector, university and other local organisations to promote a region which is home to 11 million people.

But since launching, some of its functions have been taken over by directly elected mayors who came into force in the West Midlands in 2017 and the East Midlands last year.

Midlands Engine has confirmed that government funding for the programme will end on March 31.
