Two former police chiefs in the North East have helped launch a firm which aims to spread º£½ÇÊÓƵ policing techniques around the world.

Former Northumbria Police assistant chief constable Timothy Shilston has been joined by Peter Wilson and Bill Brame to form Timothy Shilston Associates (TSA), a new company which will train up police worldwide in British community police techniques.

The company brings together specialist expertise in international police development and judicial reform, especially in war zone or post-conflict areas, with the three owner-directors joined by 13 associates that include former Northumbria chief constable Steve Ashman.

Mr Shilston was with Northumbria Police for 30 years, and after retiring he has since specialised in international police development, working in New York, Afghanistan, Palestine and Ukraine.

He said: “We decided to create the company because we could bring together a remarkable group of people with immense experience in international policing, to ensure a quality product to compete with the best worldwide.

“Our training courses always takes account of the local circumstances. A standard model doesn’t work for every country and circumstance, and our understanding of war zone countries makes a real difference to results.

“I have returned to post-conflict countries in which I’ve trained police to see the effects of the training.

“It’s humbling to witness the change in community policing methods and the effectiveness of the training, which cascades through ranks of officers to strengthen results.”
