A new white-knuckle rollercoaster ride, brand new hotel accommodation and a coastal attraction are among developments moving ahead at leisure leader Flamingo Land this year, accounts reveal.

The family-owned theme park, zoo and holiday village in Malton, North Yorkshire, has grown to become one of the most popular visitor attractions in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, having welcomed thousands of guests over more than 40 years.

Now the business has outlined some of its future plans, including revealing the name of its new rollercoaster, which is set to be completed this year.

The firm’s plans are revealed in latest accounts for the business, for the year ended March 31, 2019, which show how continued investments have helped to drive up profits and revenues.

Turnover rose 9.96% to £32.04m and operating profit almost doubled from £1.77m to £3.2m. Pre-tax profit also increased from £1.77m to £3.26m.

Directors attribute the growth to further improvements in general park admissions and the continued success of the holiday village area.

The strategic report for the year details how the firm invested £2.02m in assets during the year, which included investing further in researching planning opportunities for an area of land in Scotland it acquired three years ago, as well as a £644,000 spend at the holiday village.

Repair and upkeep costs were £2.9m – up on the £2.3m spent the year before – and headcount increased, from 388 to 421 employees.
