In the first of the two evidence sessions Lord McLoughlin, chairman of Transport for the North, and chief executive Martin Tugwell will also face MPs.

They will be joined by Transport Focus chief executive Anthony Smith and Jennifer Williams, northern correspondent at the Financial Times.

They have been called in front of the committee as part of its examination into the causes and effects of recent rail services disruption.

First TransPennine Express and Northern Trains, along with Avanti West Coast, have come under fire in recent months after a spate of cancelled and delayed services.
