The fifth annual Leicester Design Season is under way, bringing together businesses involved in all aspects of the creative industries.
The month runs until October 27 and includes talks, installations and workshops looking at design, trends and innovation at home overseas. Events are being coordinated through the Leicester City Council-run creative hub the LCB Depot.
This year's event is being run in partnership with the Design Leicester business group and De Montfort University, and offers opportunities for businesses, academics and the public to find out about the burgeoning digital arts and design sector as well as architecture and the textile/maker economy – all of which are strengths for the city.
LCB depot workspace manager James Burkmar said: “Unbelievably we are at our fifth Leicester Design Season this year.
“Based largely at the LCB Depot this year, the season now boasts partners from the city's creative design industries known as Design Leicester and HE – both courses and academics.
“This year we have a season of 20 events and exhibitions which spans textiles, digital design, and architecture and comprises talks, workshops and an exhibition.
“Design Season aims to contribute to a fresh contemporary narrative for the city using the creative design sector to do that.”
Highlights include the chance for people to try their hand at design via a specially commissioned “Living Logos” tool created by city design business Some Bright Spark.

On Tuesday, October 18, Design Leicester presents Design and Innovation at the LCB Depot, bringing together academics, creatives, businesses, innovators and producers to consider what great design and innovation looks like and then discuss how it can be used to build a better world.
On Wednesday, October 19, Jiten Anand, the chief executive of cultural producers Inspirate will chair a discussion looking at the value of working with designers when producing cultural festivals. October 20 will see the Love Architecture Awards evening, hosted by Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects in association with RIBA.
Artists and musician Courtney Askew takes up a two day residency at LCB Depot Print Room on October 20 and 21, assuming her alter ego of fictitious and disgraced CEO ‘Charlotte Ives’ of the Hercy B Enterprises – all enabled by AI and digital design tech.
Thursday, October 27 will see the next Create Leicester event at LCB Depot, which will welcome user experience consultant and interaction design specialist Ollie Wells, from IT and business consultancy CGI.
All the events will take place against the backdrop of LCB Depot’s Design themed exhibition ‘Design for Life’ which runs until October 27.
