The health club and hotel conglomerate helmed by former Dragons' Den star Duncan Bannatyne has flexed its financial muscles with record sales and a surge in profits for 2024, it has been disclosed.

Bannatyne Group has reported a robust revenue of £149.6m for the latest fiscal year, outperforming the previous record of £138.9m set in 2023, as reported by .

The Darlington-based group's pre-tax profit also leapt from £10.1m to £14.4m over the same period, as per the newly filed accounts at Companies House.

The Bannatyne Health Clubs chain, which began its journey in 1997 with its inaugural location in North Yorkshire, saw Duncan Bannatyne at its helm during his tenure on BBC's Dragons' Den from 2005 to 2015.

Revenue at the Bannatyne Health Club chain bulked up from £128.3m to £139m in 2024, while its pre-tax profit also increased from £9.3m to £13.5m.

How does Duncan Bannatyne compare to rival Dragons’ Den stars

In comparison to his fellow Dragons' Den stars, Duncan Bannatyne's results come hot on the heels of a City AM report earlier this month that revealed Theo Paphitis, another former Dragon, halved losses at his group behind stationery retailer Ryman.

The Cheshire-based group posted a pre-tax loss of £1.49m for the year ending 30 March, 2024, an improvement from Ryman Group's pre-tax loss of £3.67m in the preceding 12 months.

The results for Theo Paphitis' business, due to be filed with Companies House by the end of 2024, also indicate a slight dip in Ryman's turnover from £111.6m to £108.9m.

In March, the first business that Steven Bartlett, a star of Dragons' Den, invested in after joining the popular BBC One show was saved from administration.

Cheesegeek, an artisan cheese retailer, was acquired by Scotland's Albex Group for an undisclosed amount.

This followed Steven Bartlett's purchase of a five per cent stake in the London-based company for £150,000 in 2021.

A month prior, City AM reported that a company sold by Dragons' Den star Peter Jones to DHL at the end of 2024 had returned to profitability before the deal was finalised.

Brandpath Group, part of the PJ Investment Group, offers global fulfilment services to e-commerce businesses and counts Google among its clients.

It was revealed in early December 2024 that Peter Jones had sold a majority stake in the company to DHL Supply Chain for an undisclosed sum.

In late 2024, it was announced that sales at Vitabiotics, the vitamin giant run by former Dragons' Den star Tej Lalvani, were nearing the £200m mark during its most recent financial year, with profits also on the rise.

The London-based company reported sales of £196.4m for 2023, according to accounts filed with Companies House well past the 30 September deadline.

This was an increase from Vitabiotics' turnover of £174.2m in 2022.
