A North Wales developer will share a 拢500 million 10-year construction contract with a top social housing provider.

Brenig Construction are the approved contractor for all Wales & West Housing schemes in North Wales worth up to 拢2.5 million as part of WWH鈥檚 commitment to building 6,000 new affordable homes across Wales in the next decade.

The expanding developer, based in Mochdre, near Colwyn Bay, employs 70 staff, 15 per cent of them apprentices and trainees, and has already handed over a 拢445,000 scheme for three new three-bedroom homes in Ruabon, near Wrexham.

They are now well advanced on a 拢1.28 million project to build 12 one and two-bedroom apartments in Earl Street, Flint, which is due to be completed this summer.

The company was launched in 2012 by former youth club pals from Glan Conwy Mark Parry and Howard Vaughan who are now joint managing directors and winning a place on the WWH framework is a significant step for them.

Mark said: 鈥淲e are the only firm on the list for projects in North Wales worth up to 拢2.5 million as part of Wales & West Housing鈥檚 ambitious project and we鈥檙e delighted to have signed this key partnership with them.

鈥淭his is very important to us as it will help us continue to provide opportunities in terms of jobs and apprenticeships as well as in developing skills and in showing that we have the capability here to carry out important projects.

鈥淭he sub-contractors we use take on apprentices from the area and use local supply chains so that major developments like this involve, invest in and benefit the local economy and community and here in Flint we are using bricklayers from the town and electricians from Greenfield.鈥

Alison Hammans, Wales & West Housing Development Officer, said: 鈥淲e have a number of sites in progress at the moment and Brenig are looking at further sites that we鈥檝e just had planning permission on.

鈥淥ne is at Penmaenhead, Conwy, and another in Northop and they are due to be starting on them in the first quarter of the New Year.

鈥淭hey have done very well for us and what they鈥檝e just handed over to us in Ruabon is great quality and here in Flint the project is coming on very well too.

鈥淚t鈥檚 about forging partnerships and creating relationships with partners like Brenig Construction and being able to rely on people.鈥
