A Derbyshire firm which specialises in dealing with asbestos has donated hundreds of items of protective equipment to front-line workers.

Midlands Asbestos Solutions (MAS), based in Crompton Road, Ilkeston, has given away PPE to local businesses and charities, including masks and other equipment, to protect workers from coronavirus.

The firm, which removes asbestos from buildings and also provides asbestos training, has handed out around 500 units to care homes, doctors offices, pharmacies and hospitals.

PPE allows hospitals, pharmacies, care homes and hospices to work safely during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It ensures the protection of people working in the thick of the crisis, covering vulnerable areas of the body and allowing them to work in dangerous conditions.

The decision by MAS to donate the items following an appeal by Emily Lawson, the chief commercial officer at the NHS.

Darren Skinner, managing director at Midlands Asbestos Solutions, said: “It’s really nice to be able to do a little bit to help not only our local community but those in need a little further out too.“We have had loads of people call and ask if we can help them out and luckily we have managed to give away a great deal of PPE that might go some way to helping a lot of people protect themselves that little bit more.

“We are blown away by all the NHS and support systems have done and are happy to offer them some kind of aid through this trying time.
