Day in the life: Philip Macartney, Chief Commercial Officer at IRP Commerce

Seaside walks bookend the day for the County Down man as he helps keep world trade flowing through IRP's e-commerce platform

Philip Macartney with daughter Molly and wife Linda

Philip Macartney joined IRP Commerce in 2020 after a career which saw him live in Dublin, London and Copenhagen.

Now back in his native Northern Ireland and living by the sea in Bangor, County Down, he shares a typical day in the firm which helps companies trade goods and services throughout the world using its e-commerce platform.

6am - Clear the emails and look at the plan for the day. I usually wake quite early so it’s good to get a head-start on everything.

7.30am - Walk my daughter Molly to school. Having lived in large cities for the last 20 odd years, I really appreciate the simple things in life such as living in a small seaside town like Bangor. A 10-minute walk along the marina, waving at the boats and birdies is a great way to start your day!

8am-9am - Swim. Most mornings I start off with a swim now gyms are back open after lockdown. I have the back of a 90-year-old, so swimming gets everything stretched and working before the stiffness of the office chair kicks in!

9am-10am - Review of the business. IRP is a data led e-commerce platform. We can see all of the transactions happening with our clients second by second and our Insights Terminal allows us to project what their sales will be that month, quarter and year. My first port of call is to look at how our clients are trading, significant moves and growth across our clients and

how our agency and service partners are performing.

10am-11am - Meeting with our Customer Success Manager David Dickson. This is an important part of my day as we as a company have invested heavily in understanding what success looks like for our customers and how our e-commerce technology and data can get them there.
