A farm business in the North East has won a contract to sell a product that promotes the North East countryside in one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s largest concert venues.

Doddington Dairy, which is based near Wooler in Northumberland, has signed a deal with Manchester Arena to sell its new Dark Skies ice cream range.

The range – which has vanilla, salted caramel, strawberry and chocolate flavours – has been created for performance venues and shops within designated Dark Skies areas, a status won by Northumberland in 2013.

The order from the Arena – which attracts more than a million visitors each year – is one of the largest in Doddington’s history.

Jackie Maxwell, who runs the farm business with husband Neill, said: “This is the culmination of months of planning and developing and we are thrilled that our fabulous new range of Dark Skies Ice Cream will be available at such a prestigious and large-scale venue as Manchester Arena so soon after launch.”

Paul Malley, head of food and beverage for Arena managers ASM Global, added: “We are excited to be the first outlet in the world to have partnered with Doddington Dairy to supply their new luxury range of ice creams.

“They are a family business who are creating natural products here in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, these are qualities which our customers are looking for more and more.”

The Maxwell family has been farming at Doddington for more than 50 years, but decided to diversify in the 1990s to produce ice cream made from its cows’ milk. The farm also produces cheese and yoghurt, with a number of its products having won national prizes.
