The creative industries are booming in Greater Manchester, and Trafford in particular, is a hotspot for this type of business.

New analysis of figures from the Office for National Statistics has revealed that there were 9,050 businesses in Greater Manchester operating in the creative industries in 2018.

According to the ONS, these include companies working in music and the performing and visual arts, film, TV and radio, photography, design, publishing, architecture, and crafts such as jewellery making.

They also include museums, galleries and libraries, as well as advertising and marketing, and IT, software and computer services, such as the publishing of computer games.

The figure is up from 8,940 such companies operating in Greater Manchester in 2017, and 8,445 in 2016.

In fact, it’s the highest number of creative businesses seen in the region since at least 2010, when comparable figures began.

The number stood at just 5,885 that year, and has been rising ever since.

The 9,050 creative industry businesses counted in Greater Manchester in 2018 works out as 32 for every 10,000 people living there.
